Hey there, disc golf fans! It’s Grace from UnsolicitedDiscPix, and I’m back with another thrilling adventure from the disc golf world. This time, I had the incredible opportunity to capture the action at the Huk Central 2023, benefiting the Mary Sunshine House. Let’s dive right in and relive the excitement!

Nestled in the scenic landscapes of Central, South Carolina, the 2023 Huk Central was a three-day disc golf extravaganza. The event was unique as it hosted two simultaneous tournaments at the Oconee National Disc Golf Complex and Grand Central Station. With both professional and amateur disc golfers in the mix, the competition was fierce!

Paige Shue

A staggering 244 players graced the event, with 128 professionals and 116 amateurs showcasing their skills. The Men’s Open division saw 93 players battling it out, with Michael (MJ) Johansen emerging as the champion. Aidan Scott and Alan Wagner tied for the second spot, making it a nail-biting finish. On the women’s front, the Female Open division had 8 talented players, with Paige Shue taking the crown. Kudos to all the players, not just the winners!

Tony Mo Reiss

But here’s the real scoop: I had the fantastic opportunity to accompany Mike from DiscGolfVanLife as he assisted Terry “The Disc Golf Guy” Miller in filming the tournament. Being alongside these two and capturing the game was an experience like no other. The players’ party on Friday night in Central was the cherry on top, with the disc golf community coming together in celebration.

Coverage by: TheDiscGolfGuy

The Disc Golf Guy captured all the action, and the coverage of the weekend can be found on The Disc Golf Guy’s YouTube channel. The event videos have already garnered a whopping 71K+ views, showcasing the immense popularity and love for the sport.

For those who participated, the Oconee National Melange Layout was made available for play at no charge, starting from the first week of April. And while the RV park is expected to be ready by 2024, this year, participants had the freedom to choose their own adventure for accommodations. From local hotels to a plethora of Air BnBs, there were plenty of options to rest and recharge.

A special shoutout to the sponsors, Anonymous Investor and Evolve Kitchen + Table, for their support. The event wouldn’t have been possible without them. Also, a big thank you to the Mary Sunshine House for being the beneficiary and for all the incredible work they do.

The Huk Central 2023 showcased the growing popularity of disc golf and the tight-knit community that supports it. I’m grateful to have been a part of it and to have captured so many memorable moments. Stay tuned for more adventures, and until then, keep throwing!
