Celebrating its 8th anniversary, this year’s Trailblazer was a resounding success, drawing a robust roster of 209 amateur players, all vying for the title of champion across a plethora of divisions.

The event, helmed by Tournament Director Matt Knight and his capable Assistant Tournament Director Samantha Murray, spanned the weekend of November 4th-5th. Players tackled three challenging courses, each with its own unique layout and obstacles. From the twisting fairways of The Green Gauntlet to the picturesque vistas at Champions Pointe and the strategically demanding grounds of LakeHawk, the tournament tested the mettle and skill of all who participated.

Optimal Play Conditions: Florida’s Weather at its Best

The weekend was graced with clear skies, as the crisp weather provided optimal conditions for disc flight, albeit a bit chilly by Florida standards. The absence of wind was a boon for many, allowing for precise throws and calculated risks that might otherwise be untenable.

The competition was fierce in all divisions, but a few standouts merit special mention:

MA40 – Mixed Amateur 40+
In a stunning display of consistency and skill, Ryan LaRue PDGA #122011 ended in first after a playoff with Kevin Nollmeyer PDGA #106183 who each carded an even-par 193 over three rounds. Their spirited play underscored the high level of competition present this weekend.

MA50 – Mixed Amateur 50+
The MA50 division saw another tiebreaker for the top spot, with Mark Janssen PDGA #20994 besting Kory Olko PDGA #50332 who both finished at an impressive 9-under par, showcasing that age is but a number when it comes to disc golf excellence.

FA50 – Women’s Amateur 50+
Angie Conway PDGA #105009 emerged victorious in the FA50 division, demonstrating grit and grace as she outlasted her competitors to finish at 2-over par, a commendable score given the challenging courses.

MA60 – Mixed Amateur 60+
Gary Judd PDGA #67884 astonished onlookers, turning in a stellar performance to finish at an unbelievable 26-under par, a score that would be the envy of many younger competitors.

MA2 – Mixed Amateur 2
Jacob Irons PDGA #153933 displayed remarkable talent throughout the weekend, ultimately clinching the first-place finish in the highly competitive MA2 division with a 27-under par.

MA3 – Mixed Amateur 3
Lonny Herndon PDGA #212823, amidst the largest division of 68 players, showcased his burgeoning skills by ending the tournament at an impressive 19-under par.

MA4 – Mixed Amateur 4
In the MA4 division, Tanner Judy PDGA # 272365 rose above the competition, finishing at 18-under par, hinting at a promising future in the sport.
